March 31, 2022 — Even in Death

I saw a man riding a bike fast, kind of recklessly. He told me he was frightened and going to the store to get some beer.”

Today’s thought is based on Proverbs 14:32

When calamity comes, the wicked are brought down,
but even in death the righteous seek refuge in God.
March 30, 2022 — Contempt for Their Maker

Several years ago, there was an earthquake in a poor country.  My friend John felt he needed to help, so he went and lived on the streets with the poor. Someone criticized him and said, “Just let the poor die.” Today’s thought is based on Proverbs 14:31

Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker,
but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.

March 29, 2022 — A Soothing Tongue

Did you know that you have real power in your tongue? Power to build up a life or tear it down! Today’s thought is based on Proverbs 15:4

4 The soothing tongue is a tree of life,
but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit.

March 24, 2022 — The Eyes of the Lord
Do you know that every time you search the internet you are being tracked? Do you know that you use your credit card, records about your habits are being stored? Most of the information stored by technology is being used to sell you something.  God also tracks everything you do, but mostly To watch over you! Today’s thought is based on Proverbs 15:3

The eyes of the Lord are everywhere,
keeping watch on the wicked and the good. (Proverbs 15:3)

March 23, 2022 — A Gentle Answer

A few years back some friends at church lost their son to violence. Evidently, he spoke some nasty words to a person who had just cut him off. Today’s thought is based on Proverbs 15:1-2

A gentle answer turns away wrath,
but a harsh word stirs up anger.
The tongue of the wise adorns knowledge,
but the mouth of the fool gushes folly. (Proverbs 15:1-2)

March 22, 2022 — A Heart at Peace

It is said that to catch a monkey all you need to do is put something shiny in a glass jar that is just wide enough to squeeze the monkey’s hand inside the container. The once the shiny object is grabbed, he will not let go, and is easily captured.  Today’s thought is based on Proverbs 14:29-30

Whoever is patient has great understanding,
but one who is quick-tempered displays folly.

A heart at peace gives life to the body,
but envy rots the bones. (Proverbs 14:29-30)

March 17, 2022 – Fountain of Life
You can and should be an example of faith and words for you children. Your faith does make a difference to your family. Today’s thought is based on Proverbs 14:26-27

Whoever fears the LORD has a secure fortress,
and for their children it will be a refuge.
27 The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life,
turning a person from the snares of death.

March 16, 2022 – All Talk, No Work
I often get requests. “What we need is this.” Sometimes they are right. “What church need to do is this.” Right, but many who have the pipe dream never act on it. Today’s thought is based on Proverbs 14:23

All hard work brings a profit,
but mere talk leads only to poverty.

March 15, 2022 – You don’t know my neighbor!
You do not know my neighbor! You should see how they live.
Today’s thought is based on Proverbs 14:20-21

The poor are shunned even by their neighbors,
but the rich have many friends.
It is a sin to despise one’s neighbor,
but blessed is the one who is kind to the needy.
March 10, 2022 – Gullible?
Every summer our family would head to a small lake in Michigan. While we were there we would often hunt for the elusive Panther and Snipe. Now the fact that there were no panthers or snipes in the area never stopped us from duping our new friends. Of course, the parents loved it because it gave us all something to do. Today’s thought is based on Proverbs 14:15-18.

March 9, 2022 – Heart Aches
How quickly life can change. One minute you are at work having fun with your friends, the next you are called into your boss’s office only to hear that the company is downsizing and your job has been eliminated. Today’s thought is based on Proverbs 14:13.

March 8, 2022 – A Way that Only Appears Right
Years ago, I had a job in a large college for a full month and then came to work to find the FBI at the door. After a big scare we found that a single admissions representative thought he was encouraging a young person to attend college by inflating their earning potential. Today’s thought is based on Proverbs 14:11-12.

March 3, 2022 — Bitterness of Heart.
Is your pain too great for anyone to understand? Turn to God and he will give you a joy so strong that you cannot explain its fullness to others. Today’s thought is based on Proverbs 14:10

March 2, 2022 — The Sceptic’s Problem
Is your negative attitude keeping you from seeing the truth? Have you ever wondered why some do not see God in anything? Today’s thought is based on Proverbs 14:6

March 1, 2022 — Save a little, Lose a Lot
I was often told, “Tools make the person.” I could not imagine trimming the yard without a string trimmer. But what about trying to live a godly life without a Bible? Today’s thought is based on Proverbs 14:4
